Four friends in Italy

June 12, 2021

Once a year, quite haphazardly, my friends and I go on a multi day cycling trip. It started out small with a couple of days in the outmost southern part of the Nederlands; Limburg. Then came the Ardennes, Luxembourg and Germany. By far the most legendary edition was our tour in Italy. Over the course of 10 days, we’ve climbed The Alps, seen the flatlands of Parma, and went up and down the mountains of Cinque Terre. Living on a diet of kilometres, laughter, scenery, pasta and Aperol Spritz.

But most importantly, we’ve gotten closer than ever. Cycling is a way to escape. To leave your day behind, clean out your head and be in touch with your surroundings. But it’s also a perfect way to get closer to each other. Admittedly, we’ve been friends for a while, yet it got us even closer than before. The trust you need to throw yourself down a mountain right in the wheel of your mate who’s having the same trust in the guy that’s in front of him. The pep talks up steep climbs. The mental support in the mornings when the legs are sour.

We cycle for the love of frienship.
