The urge for adventure and the longing to leave has always been a strong force in my life. As an upper-middleclass Dutch boy befits, high school was followed up by a backpacking trip trough Australia. There, 18 years old, I got a taste of what it means to feel truly free and amazed. I’ve been chasing that ever since. During my university days I seized every opportunity to study abroad (Turkey, England) and have tried to see the world anytime I could.

There is just so much more than here. Home can be beautiful but I find discomfort in being comfortable for too long. Maybe it’s a fear of missing out. I feel like there’s just so much adventures waiting to happen, and people waiting to meet. I call it constructive escapism; I don’t need to leave, but I’d really like to!

This is my most daring travel project yet. That’s obviously because of the mode of transportation; cycling. And because the plan can be captured in merely two words; ride east. The uncertainty is audacious and scary at times, but the exact same uncertainty is what makes traveling so exciting and beautiful. It brings adventure and freedom.

When I’m not cycling I work as a photographer and creative strategist in Amsterdam. You may find my professional portfolio here.
