A bunch of builds
June 9, 2021
Building, restoring, and even cleaning a bike is one of the most satisfying things in the world. For me it is at least. When the frontwheel of my Koga Miyata Gent’s Racer got stuck in a tramtrack, and the subsequent fall ripped open my chins, knees and hands I decided I needed some wider tires. From that moment on, I’ve never really stopped building bikes.
It’s a welcome transition from screen-work to hand-work. And bikes are in a sense more honest. You get feedback instentaniously

My neo-retro Vitus 979 Duralinox. One of the first aluminium frames due to the glued (instead of welded) lugs. I've finished it off with a full Campagnolo Veloce groupset. It's undoubtedly my favourite bike to ride.

RIH are a staple of Dutch quality steel bikes. This one I've build up as a coaster brake city racer for a friend. Wide tires, leather saddle, cork grips. An eye-catcher if I may say so myself.

Another single speed conversion. I couldn't find anything about the apparently French brand Arrow. What I could find was nail polish. Dripping three colours over the frame in Pollock fashion gave it a galaxy like finish. With the wide 32mm tires perfect as a fast cafe racer.
